Sliding shower doors
Having sliding shower doors on showers keeps more water in the shower and gives the bathroom a more finished look. No need to worry about shower curtains. Sliding shower doors, while a little difficult to install, gives any bathroom a luxury effect and makes the space look larger.
Installing sliding shower doors can be difficult but the average do-it-yourselfer can accomplish the task in about an hour or two. Before the installation process, the homeowner has to decide what kind of sliding shower door he or she would like. There are two types of sliding doors, frameless sliding shower doors and glass sliding doors.
Frameless sliding shower doors have clean edges. The doors are just glass with chrome handles to open the doors. If a homeowner wants a clean finish, frameless sliding shower doors should be considered.
Glass sliding shower doors are the typical shower doors one may see when touring a bathroom with sliding shower doors. The tracks of the doors are visible and if one is looking for the standard sliding shower door, it’s best if the homeowner buys glass sliding shower doors.
Installing sliding shower doors is a step-by-step process. A Saturday afternoon would be a perfect day to install the sliding doors since there is some drilling, caulking and leveling that comes with installing the shower doors.
Measure the width of the shower from corner to corner. Cut the track with a hacksaw. Make sure you wear safety glasses when cutting. Place the flat part of the track on the ledge of the tub, the top leg facing out. Hold the track in place and then slide the door jamb over the bottom track. Make sure the door is a good fit by using a level. Drill the holes in the tub with a 3/16″ drill bit. Hammer plastic anchors. Do this the entire tub surround. Once the track is installed, the rollers have to be installed as well. When all the installation is done, caulk along the jambs and bottom track to ensure water will never leak from your project. After waiting 24 hours for the caulk to dry, you can enjoy your new shower, with the satisfaction you did it yourself.
Shower doors are a nice addition to any bathroom. Installation can be a bit tricky but after the job is done, you will not want to go back to buying bathroom curtains.
